( S . O . U . T . H . P . E . R . T . H . ) Strive for Excellence with Flexibility We believe that excellence honours God and inspires people. We also believe that it is paramount for us to be flexible in our approach. We must communicate in a relevant way the unchanging message of God to an ever changing world. (Colossians 3:17; Malachi 1:6-14; Luke 5:37) Open Acceptance Of All People We believe that loving relationships should permeate every aspect of church life and that the Gospel is for all people. Living in multi-cultural Australia gives us special challenges and opportunities in this regard. (Acts 1:8; 1Corinthians 13; Nehemiah 3; Luke 10:1 John 13:34-35) Uncompromised Commitment to Discipleship We believe that Christ followers should manifest authenticity and yearn for continuous growth and that full devotion to Christ and His cause is normal for every believer. We will seek to prayerfully disciple everyone who God entrusts to our care. (1Kings 11:4; Philippians 2:1-11; 2 Corinthians 8-7; Ephesians 4:25-26, 32; Hebrews 12:1; Philippians 1:6) Target Clearly Defined We believe that all lost people matter to God, and therefore, ought to matter to the church. We will seek to equip all our people so they pray for their unbelieving friends, can give verbal expression to their faith and are able to lead a person to Christ given the opportunity. We will be committed to world wide mission. Luke 5:30-32; Luke 15; Matthew 18:14; 28 18-20) Honest Authentic Leadership We believe that churches should be led by those with leadership gifts. That the leaders must be honest and authentic in their approach to ministry. That the leadership should act and lead as directed by God through prayer and the leading of the Holy Spirit. We believe leadership in the New Testament operated on an accountable team basis. There is no room for solo players (Nehemiah 1 and 2; Romans 12:8 Acts 6:2-5) Principle Driven Empowered by Prayer All churches are driven; we intentionally want to be driven by biblical principles, These principles have been born in prayer, ministry. (Proverbs 19:21; Matthew 16:18; James 4:2,3; 1 John 5:14,15) Every Member Ministry We believe that the church should operate as a unified community of servants stewarding their spiritual gifts. We will prayerfully help people discover their gifts and in turn seek to mobilise them in the use of their gifts. (1 Corinthians 12 and 14; Romans 12; Ephesians 4) Relational, Biblical and Behavioural Preaching We believe that anointed teaching in every facet of the churches life is the primary catalyst for transformation in individual's lives and in the church. This preaching and teaching must be prayed for. As a result will and must affect the way we live. (Romans 12-7; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; James 1:23-25) Teaching and Growing in Groups We believe that life-change happens best in small, accountable, prayer based groups. It is our desire to see every member committed to a group of this nature. (Luke 6:12-13; Acts 2:44-47) Hold Seeker Sensitive Worship Services We believe that the church should be culturally relevant while remaining doctrinally pure. That we should be committed to the biblical principles of the church. We face the great challenge of taking the unchanging message to a changing world. This will be reflected in every thing we do, especially our services. (1 Corinthians 9:19-23) |
